Week 3- Assignment 2 Post

Becoming a Win-win Teacher: Survival Strategies for the Beginning Educator

Author: Dr. Jane Bluestein

My research this week took a turn into a different direction.  My original thought was to research teaching strategies for different learning styles.  As I was looking through the different databases for a book that would interest me, I was not finding any luck.  I used multiple keyword searches and used several search engines ranging from the Leatherby Libraries to Google books and also some research at my public library.  The titles I was finding did not give adequate information that I would have wanted to receive.
While conducting multiple searches with a variety of keywords I did end up seeing some titles that did interest me but took me away from my original research topic.  Instead of researching the learning styles of students I have decided to look more into the kind of educator I want to become.  I searched with the keywords “First year teachers” and came up with quite a few results.  While looking into the titles I was very interested in once in particular. “Becoming a Win-win Teacher: Survival Strategies for the Beginning Educator” stuck out to me a lot.  While reading portions of this book I started thinking about how it will it be in my first year.  What kind of teacher will I be? The author, Dr. Jane Bluestein, gave some great examples of experiences she had and also gave great analogies of the types of feelings you could have stepping into a teaching role.
I am really hopeful that the remainder of my research will be very beneficial to my future goals.  I feel like I had a broad idea of what I was trying to research and it made it difficult for me to find a book that would really stand out and be helpful.  I also think the variety of keyword searches I used help me find what I was looking for and what was interesting to me.

Week 2, Assignment 2

Hello All!
In my introductory post I really hadn't picked a specific topic within education that I wanted to research.  I decided that I wanted to research the different teaching approaches to different learning styles.  I thought the google search would be the easiest part for because I am familiar with it and I use it most.  After the readings and really looking into the websites provided within my search, I found that it was more difficult because I was questioning the sources.
The most helpful resource was using the EBooks within the library.  The most helpful collection was the Gale Virtual Reference Library.  I found multiple resource to help with the basics of my topic and what the learning styles actually are with basic approaches in teaching to them.  I know using this reference will help me expand on more specific aspects of each learning style.

Week 1- Welcome

Hello Everyone!

My name is Pamela Perez and this is my first class at Brandman.  I did attend CSU Fresno straight out of high school on an athletic scholarship.  Unfortunately life happens and got the best of me.  I have spent the last year taking classes at Fresno City College to make up some general education classes I needed. I am also enrolled in my last two classes this semester at Fresno City.  I am pursuing my degree in Liberal Studies.  I am currently employed at a successful independent study charter high school.  The company I work for is amazing and has school sites up and down the state. Right now I am the Student Relations Manager.  My team consists of what you would normally see as the classified staff at a traditional school. My goal is to transition over to the educational staff and become a teacher.
My goal for this course is to help me become more aware of all resources available for research. Right now I use the internet mostly but I am not very good nor do I put much effort into verifying if the information is credible. I have not really used any online libraries so this will broaden my resources.  I think it is important for me to open up to other avenues of research especially now that I am enrolled with the online program.  I am old school when it comes to technology.  I would rather have a hard copy that I can write on and physically have in my hand. This class is an excellent first course for me with the online program. Being that many schools and programs offer more technology based courses I believe it is important for me as I venture towards my goal in joining the educational staff with my school.
Hopefully I will be able to connect with some of you who are possibly wanting to get the same things out of this class as I do. I am looking forward to working with you all.
